HOME MEANS NEVADA, THE STATE ANTHEM, IS TRUE FOR THE 3.1 MILLION AND GROWING RESIDENTS OF THE SILVER STATE.
Nevada has a unique history where two dominant industries have thrived while also at times creating a boom-and-bust economy. Yet, Nevada and our urban communities are not isolated archipelagoes in a sea of desert. We share a 610-mile border with the fifth-largest economy in the world. We live in a time of unprecedented change, be it from nature or man. We have more access than ever before to individuals halfway across the globe. We have survived a pandemic and are preparing for the next economic altering event that could be caused by artificial intelligence, climate change, or something else.
As a state, we have a lot going for us these days. We are growing, with a population set to hit 4 million by 2040. Our population is slightly younger than the rest of the nation. Long recognized as the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas has also become a destination for professional sports and other new industries in everything from healthcare to tech to clean energy.
But, we also have our challenges. Nevada is the driest state in the nation and we are finding ourselves increasingly having to manage the crisis on the Colorado River. There are severe restrictions on land development that while not unique to the West, are unique compared to any of our metropolitan peers in the region. After the pandemic, we realized that what makes us a state are not the lines drawn on a map, but the individuals who occupy the land inside those boundaries, which we rely on to power our economy. All of these are reasons to be both optimistic and realistic about what lies ahead.
That is what Outlook is all about, providing you with the tools and information needed to succeed and thrive no matter what life throws at us.
