HENDERSON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA WELCOMES NEARLY 2,500 CCSD STUDENTS TO ITS ANNUAL CONCERT 4KIDS AT LEE'S FAMILY FORUM

The fourth and fifth grade students joined from 16 different schools in the valley.

The Henderson Symphony Orchestra (HSO) welcomed nearly 3,000 people to its annual Concert 4Kids at Lee’s Family Forum on Thursday, April 3. The event included 2,463 students and 362 chaperons from 19 schools who arrived in a total of 38 buses.

The private concert provided students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in classical music. The kids were treated to a performance of Lemony Snicket’s “The Composer is Dead,” a murder mystery about the killing of a composer in which every instrument is a suspect. The concert ended with John Williams’ Harry Potter theme. This yearly event provides a unique experience where students can touch and try orchestral instruments, conduct the orchestra, and interact with the musicians and music director.

“This is our favorite event of the year because music education is a big mission here at the Henderson Symphony Orchestra,” said Alexandra Arrieche, music director of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. “It is exciting when we see the kids engaging with the orchestra and with instruments. It’s really special because we can show them that music is for everybody.”

The annual Concert 4Kids is just one of several programs the HSO offers, to promote inclusion in symphonic music for youth, emerging artists, and experienced professionals.
