Olympic Medalist Katie Grimes Joins NSB's 'Through the Door' to Share Lessons on Mindset, Motivation, and Competing at the Highest Level

LAS VEGAS – Nevada State Bank (NSB) has released the latest episode of its podcast series, “Through the Door: The Insider’s Perspective on Running a Business.” In “Episode Seventeen: Making Waves with Katie Grimes,” host Megan Comfort welcomes the Olympic medalist and world champion swimmer for an inspiring conversation about discipline, joy, personal growth, and navigating the pressures of elite competition. Grimes reflects on her journey from childhood swim lessons in Las Vegas to representing her country on the world stage, and how mindset, community, and incremental progress shaped her rise.

The youngest of seven children, Katie Grimes grew up around swimming pools in Las Vegas, where her older brothers excelled at the sport. When she was old enough, she joined the
Sandpipers of Nevada competitive swim team. Watching her brother Carter compete at the 2016 U.S. Trials inspired her to chase her own Olympic dream. At her first Trials, she placed in the 800‑meter freestyle, earning a spot as the youngest member of the U.S. team that summer. Since 2021, Grimes has won three medals in pool events at the World Aquatics Championships. She is also a world‑class open‑water swimmer and one of the few athletes to medal in both pool and openwater events. At the 2023 Golden Goggles Awards, she earned Female Race of the Year for her performance in the 10‑kilometer open‑water event at the Fukuoka World Championships, where she claimed bronze and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team. In 2024, Grimes made history as the first U.S. woman to compete in both pool and openwater events at an Olympics. In Paris, she captured silver in the 400 individual medley and finished 15th in the women’s 10K openwater swim. At the 2024 Golden Goggles Awards, she was named Fran Crippen Open Water Swimmer of the Year. The following month, Grimes earned three medals at the Short Course World Championships, helped set a world record in the 4x200 freestyle relay, and broke the American record in the women’s 400 individual medley. Grimes continues her swimming career as a member of the University of Virginia swimming and diving team.

“Through the Door” features inspiring interviews with entrepreneurs and business leaders from across Nevada. From startup stories and daily motivations to overcoming challenges and finding innovative solutions, these conversations are designed to spark new ideas and insights. New episodes are released on the first Tuesday of every month and are available on nsbank.com/podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
